May 26, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - NDS Info

The current generation of R4 card is the most popular card device for the Nintendo DS . Before its release, the Max Media Player flash cartridge was used. The Acekard 2i, is the first commercially available card compatible with the new Nintendo DSI.

With the release of the latest cartridge, R4 DS owners can do more than play games on their handheld console devices and so much more. Using Moonshell there are the capabilities to play music, play videos, open e-books, and view pictures. Moonshell is a homebrew multimedia player for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS lite dual-screen handheld videogame systems. Moonshell usually is provided with the cartridge or available for download.

An example of a type of application that can be used for the R4 is DSOrganize. This software allows you to use your DS as a basic office suite. It includes a file browser, Web browser, text editor, image editor, calculator, calendar, contact lists and other useful functions.

The R4DS card is not the main storage device and acts only as a decrypting adapter that reads microSD cards with capacities up to 2 gigabytes (for SD, and 32GB for SDHC capable R4). The R4 usually ships with a USB microSD card reader/writer so users are can transfer files in & out of their microSD card with their computer or notebook.

R4 even lets people keep in touch with their friends and family. MSN Messenger AIM Homebrew application allows users to connect to their MSN, Yahoo Messenger, or AIM. The most interesting is that, VoIP also can be used with the R4 (svSIP). This means that the DS is also being used as a mobile phone, as long as a WiFi connection is available!

One of the main benefits of the R4 adapter is that Nintendo R4 DS owners can quickly change & play many games and not need to use more than one game cartridge. This makes traveling with your DS easier. Adding and removing files is super easy with the adapter and the microSD card reader/writer. Simply download the games they want to play, keeping dozens of games on a single cartridge.

Another benefit that makes the R4 card the best is the quality construction and easy of use. It has a built-in NoPass feature so you don’t need a boot cart. You just install the firmware for the R4 card. This is available online, and then it is a simple as dragging NDS ROM game files onto the card and then they appear in your list of games in your R4DS menu. Easy to follow instructions are included in the package. Usually setting up a R4DS card takes less than 15 minutes.
